Is Voltaren Advisable For Lower Back Pain?

I have been having lower back pain. It is a numb, tingly, just annoying feeling. I have told my Doctor about it for almost 8 months now and she just says it may be a pinched nerve. She has given me Voltaren once a day 75 mg and that has only helped first thing in the morning. Within a few hours it is back again. It runs around my right leg also. I can put my finger in a certain spot and feel warmth run down my leg. I am just getting very concerned and need to know if I need to see another kind of Doctor?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would be best, as your mentioned, to get a second opinion.

Yes, the most likely cause of the symptom, is abnormal function of a nerve, but a doctor needs to determine the reason for the 'pinch'.

Imaging of the spine should be done to take a look at the bones (vertebra) , the discs (cartilage between the bones) and the associated nerves.
This imaging is to determine if trauma to the nerves is the cause of the pain.

Other causes of nerve related pain are: (1) diabetes
(2)kidney or liver disease
(3)side effect of medication
(4)low levels of vitamin b12 and folate
(5)thyroid disease
(6)exposure to toxins
(7)stroke , ms
(8)infection such as shingles
(9)some autoimmune diseases such as RA

Blood tests , to determine, if any of these is present, would also be helpful as well.

There are medications that can be used with nerve related pain that can be prescribed for you.

I hope this helps
