Is Warfarin Advisable To Take Prior To An Electromyogram?

My husband is having an electromyogram/nerve conductor test tomorrow. He is on warfarin, but the referring doctor did not tell him to stop taking it.{His last warfarin blood level was 2.5} Should he not take it tonight? Should he re-schedule this test for a later date. We are to see the referring surgeon next Monday and he will be expecting results. In addition, my husband suffers from Restless Legs Syndrome...is this test going to make him have an episode ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am of the opinion that there is always a chance of Hematoma formation while inserting the needle for EMG studies if on warfarin therapy. So your surgeon and neurologist should be informed first.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
