Is A Hard Sore Boil On The Pointer Finger A Symptom Of Arthritis?

I have developed a bump on my pointer finger between my finger nail and the first digit. It is read, hard and has been sore for about a month now. Could this be a form of arthritis? My great-grandmother had gnarly fingers in her old age and I would like to avoid that if at all possible.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a boil which is related to an infection of the hair follicle. It is not likely to be related to arthritis. I suggest to clean the boil with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with an antibiotic cream such as Neosporin cream.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
