Is A Large Bruise On The Calf, Post Leg Angiography, Anything Serious?

I have had surgery, angiogram on lower right leg. with Fem pot (?) am just home recovering. Had no pulse of leg. they saved it. 20 staples from knee to ankle and fem pot. I am on Plavix. I think I am doing very well for the severity of it all. I just noticed a baseball sized bruise on the back of my calf. Not painful. Is this normal bruising. I will be going to doctor next week for staple removal, am getting around.

Hello,

It is nothing but a collection of blood underneath the skin. It is due to the blood thinners you are taking after the angiography procedure.

In most cases, it will settle by itself.

It the lesion persists for long, dose adjustments of the blood thinners may be required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
