Is A Large Painless Lump Near The Vagina A Concern?
HI I found a large lump/cyst near my vagina opening. I have taken antibiotics for the last 3 days. Although the size has reduced its still there and i have no pain in the vagina or cyst area but just infrequent backache. I am also due for my period any day. I have noticed when I bathe it with warn water it kind of subsides. Please advise
It could just possibly be a simple Lipoma, a benign collection of fat cells. It is a harmless condition. I would recommend first examining it yourself. If the lump is soft, moves freely under the skin and is painless, it is most probably a lipoma and needs no treatment. If you are not sure, get it examined by a doctor. Lipomas are harmless. There is no need to treat them. They do not reduce on their own but are anyway not problematic. A surgical removal is required only if it is so big as to affect normal functioning or for cosmetic reasons. Report to your doctor immediately if lipoma turns red, is painful and growing suddenly or is bleeding.
The cyst you noticed could be a Bartholin's gland cyst. It arises from the bartholins gland in vagina. The cyst usually do not cause any problems and go away without any treatment.
You can do sitz bath (sitting in warm water bath) that will help to shrink the cyst.
The cyst can get infected and cause pain and redness. If you develop pain, fever, redness or enlargement of cyst, please be advised to follow up with a Gynecologist. You might require treatment with antibiotics and drainage of cyst.
Hope I was able to answer your question Please address any more concerns Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
