Is A Lesion On The Liver As Shown In The CT Scan A Concern?

My son-in-law went to the ER on Friday with vomiting and severe stomach pain and spasms. They did a CT scan and felt he just had a bug. However, the scan showed a 2.4 cm lesion on his liver that the dr said was more than a cyst to be drained. He said he should have it checked out ASAP. My daughter and son-in-law live and work in Bolivia and plan to return there on Friday. Do you think it would be best for him to have further testing before they leave the US?

Hi,

If the lesion seen in the CT examination is a clear cyst with no structures inside this is nothing to worry as single liver cysts are very common and generally need no further medical intervention.

If the cyst is not simple but has structures inside or not clear fluid then investigations have to be made to determine the cause of it. If the doctor said it needs to b e checked then i would say probably it was not a simple cyst and would follow his instructions for further examinations and follow up.
