Is A Lump On The Belly Button A Cause For Concern?
My husband has always had an outtie belly button, but over the last year it has spread to over 2 inches wide and protrudes even more. I was told it was a hernia by a nurse friend and he needs to see a doctor before it erupts. It isn t easy getting him to a doctor. Is this something that could be serious or just a nuisance that won t cause any damage. Please advise.

That is an umblical hernia which should be addressed as early as possible. At times, the gut loops stuck inside causing an obstructed hernia with block to the blood supply of gut. This becomes a surgical emergency.
