Is A Negative Flash Light Examination Of Testicles A Concern?

My son was at the doctor today. The doctor shone a flashlight through his scrotum, and found the light would not shine through. This indicated something and he told my son what he thinks it is. My son is so worked up he forgot what the doctor told him. He thinks it starts with the letter V . Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It means that he was likely having varicocele in testes which means tortuous blood vessels and doesn't pose any huge risk and isn't as big a problem as your son has taken it. It's manageable and a urologist review may be considered in this regard. Ultrasound testes may also need to be performed.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Regards,
