Is A Shot Required To Prevent Shingles For A 64-year-old?

I have had herpies since I was little. I do have shingles since I was in my early 20 s and now 64 yrs old. Do I need a shot to help prevent shingles? a lot of times I can feel the burn and stinging on my face and head, just to let me know they are still there but not blow up. Has been 5 yrs or so they was getting fired up and called me doc and he got in right away and gave me a script and they cut the pain. Now only feel the burning/stinging but hasn t blown up. What should I do? thanks, Smokey

Hello,

It's possible to have shingles more than once, but it's very rare to get it more than twice. But it is also true that shingles usually develops in much older people who had chickenpox as kids. The reason is that as you get older, the immune system gets tired.

So far as chicken pox shot is concerned,it has been found that one dose of vaccine reduced shingles infection by 78 percent so yes it is better to take a shot.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
