Is A Small And Dark Mark On The Thigh A Cause For Concern?

Hi, there is a small circle about the size of a penny on my upper inner thigh. It is a couple shades darker than my skin tone. It is not raised or bumpy or itchy or painful. It appeared there about nine months ago and has not changed much in appearance since then. The outer edge is slightly darker than the rest of it. Should I be concerned? My friend thought it might be ringworm, but it is not red like most of the images we could find of ringworm. It is not a birthmark, because it just appeared last summer. I just want to know if it s something I should worry about. I am a 20 year old female. Thank you!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have small and dark mark on the thigh a cause for concern . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to aging-related wear and tear called disk degeneration , it can also occur due to knee joint swelling , DVT and contact dermatitis. Hematoma due to injury or twisting and turning while lifting is also one of the major reason for this problem . The bruise can also occur due to infection or allergic reaction. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan ,MRI , myelogram , nerve conduction test along with physical examination . Doctor may also drain hematoma.Doctor may also recommend physical therapy and surgery in some severe cases. Doctor may also refer you to dermatologist for allergic problem .For now apply cold compresses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
