Is A Subcapsular Spot On The Liver Something To Be Concerned About?

Hi. I went in yesterday to be seen for ongoing upper right quadrant pain, my doctor ordered blood tests and a CAT scan. My gallbladder was fine but my liver showed fatty deposits and a subcapsular spot on my liver. I went in today for an ultrasound but I haven’t heard back yet. Is a subcapsular spot something to be concerned about?

Hello,

Subcapsular liver spots are commonly benign lesions, rarely tumors. They may be indicative of focal fat deposits, cysts, or hemangiomas, etc. Your treating doctor will tell you to get a blood test, liver function tests, a lipid profile, and tumor markers like AFP done. An MRI can be recommended if the lesion is large and liver function tests are abnormal to rule out chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis or any other serious liver dysfunction.

You are advised to switch to boiled food over spicy, oily junk food. Do regular exercises and walking. Maintain a healthy weight. If overweight, lose weight. Take a low-sugar, low-fat diet and quit alcohol or addictions, if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
