Is A Swelling In The Cheekbone Area A Side Effect Of Durezol?

I have been using 4 drops per day of durezol for 2 and 1/2 wks. I have developed swelling now on my cheekbone under the eye and also a small bump like pimple has developed in the bag under the eye. Is this an allergic reaction to durezol. Should I stop using it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Durezol contains a type of steroids. Allergic reactions are unlikely with these drops. The history you described, it looks like you have got an infection of the small duct of dacryocystitis. In fact, there is a small opening in the inner side of the eye which drains tears to the nose through a small tube. Sometimes this tube gets blocked or infected which causes swelling over the cheek and sticky secretion at the inner side of the eye. This is called dacryocystitis. That's what looks like your problem. Generally it is treated with antibiotic drops and massage. Steroids are a risk factor for infection. So I understand you should see your doctor for this to examine your eye and plan ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
