Is Abortion Recommended While Having HEV And Jaundice?
Hi My sister had a positive HEV-IgM in blood test in Feb 28 and her recent HEV-IgM test (April 5th) still shows positive at about same level (5.8). She is 3.5 months pregnant. Her ALP is high - 163 from the normal range of 35-100. She has been having serve Jaundice from the start. She feels itchy all over her body. Her TBIL and DBiL are still increasing (TBIL-150 and DBil - 141). She is informed to start to take Prednisone and prepare to have abortion to her 3.5 months baby. Question: Do you think she may also have gallbladder and bile ducts problems? Is it recommended to have abortion while going through all of the HEV and severe Jaundice problems? Is Prednisone bad for the baby if she chooses to keep her?
hi healthcare magic user, hepatitis E in pregnancy is not indication for termination of the pregnancy. it is lifetreatening condition for female. As she has deranged liver enzymes and APLA positive she is high risk for having risk of blood coagulation defect. please take vitamins K injection. you need to start blood thinners depending upon coagulation profile. please treat her with good physician, she may need intensive care monitoring. please don't abort pregnancy as it may lead to heavy bleeding, coagulation defect will need lots of blood and blood products. Regards to Prednisone effect on baby depends on dose in low dose it doesn't harm baby.
