Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on Pristiq ER. I recently had a myelogram and was told to discontinue use until after the procedure and my family doctor said I could not just stop the med. You cannot just discontinue use of pristiq. So they only gave me Valium and Morphine during procedure. I was in a lot of pain and told them but they said I would not remember anything. I remember everything including some very derogatory conversation. I have had many surgeries prior while on Pristiq and was given Versed (the drug that makes you not remember). Have I been in danger before with the other surgeries?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Pristiq ER is extended release formulation of Desvenlafaxine and abrupt stoppage of this drug after prolonged use is known to cause withdrawal symptoms so it is not advisable to stop the drug suddenly. Dose reduction is advised to be done gradually over 6-8 weeks. Valium and Morphine are also good drugs for minor procedures and these are safe drugs. Similarly Midazolam (Versed) is also a safe drug for anaesthesia. Midazolam is relatively strong drug so it caused amnesia and you couldnt remember the procedure. But in my opinion you were not in danger during procedures.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
