Is Absence Of Fetal Pole A Matter Of Concern?

I'm a 39 year old female with several miscarriages. I am 6 weeks pregnant and had ultrasound. Saw gestational sack and yolk sack, no fetal pole. HCG doubling ever 48 hours. No cramping or bleeding. Should I be concerned? Wait for second US next week?

I have understood your problem.

Absence of the foetal pole in the gestational sac indicates that there is no baby in the sac. We call this as Blighted ovum. Such pregnancy does not continue or has to be terminated.

If hCG is doubling every 48 hours, please get ultrasonography repeated molar pregnancy. Here the baby is replaced by grapes like tissue.

Under any circumstances, this pregnancy should not be continued. It should be terminated.

Please get your Obstetrician's opinion ASAP.
