Is Acid Reflux Related To The Heart Condition?

My husband had an aortic valve replacement three years ago and has lately been experiencing a lot of acid reflex. He takes half a teaspoon of baking soda when this happens to or three times a day. He’s been on Nexium one tablet each morning for the past two years. Is it possible that the acid reflex is related to heart condition? He doesn’t drink anything except water and Coffee in the morning. He avoids spicy foods and acidic foods.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern. the aortic valve replacement doesnt seem to be related to the acid reflux.
it seems he might have a bacterial infection in stomach ie h pylori infection.
an upper gastro intestinal endoscopy is advisable to see for presence of ulcers in stomach. this can be then adequately treated with antibiotics.
i hope your husband is taking the blood thinners that the cardiologist might have prescribed after valve replacement.
too much of baking soda and nexium is not advisable as this lead to calcium buildup and hinders with nutritional absorption.
hope i have answered yoir query.
wishing your husband a speedy recovery
