Hi, I was hit with a tennis ball 3weeks ago and for the past 1 week I have been seeing flashes which indicates a detached retina, my question is..... can I fly on the plane with it and can I still play tennis till my appointment date for surgery. I am 40yrs of age and 6.5 in height 315 weight overall good health condition.
Flashes of light following a blunt injury could be due to vitreous traction with or without a retinal detachment. It needs to be evaluated immediately if there is associated floaters and blurring of vision( as if you were to be looking through a veil or curtain). It is better to avoid flight journey or tennis game as giving rest to the eye is beneficial.
It is advisable to take complete rest. Rest will not aggravate the detachment and help it to settle down You can be in constant touch with retina surgeon
