Is Allergy Medicines Safe To Take During Pregnancy?
hi, my wife got skin allergy from last 1 week and she is 6 week pregnant now, in initial stage she had avil, but she didn t get relief, now she is taking avomine and rantac 150 medicines twice a day as per doctor advice, and she is getting relief also, is it 100% safe during pregnancy? pls advice, and how many day she can take this medicine? is there any harm to her and baby?
Hello, Avomine is a category C medication and it can be used when benefits outweigh risks since animal studies have shown no hazard and human studies are insufficient. However, it can interfere with urine pregnancy tests giving false positive or negative tests and this should be remembered. Rantac is a category B medication and is used when benefits outweigh risks. In fact, no drug is absolutely safe in pregnancy, but, several have been used as the situation demands without any ill effects. So, it is wise to take as less medication as possible. Hope this helps.
