Is An Anomaly Scan Done After 12 Or 20 Weeks?

Hi, I am 12 weeks pregnant and this is my second baby. My first child is 9 years old. So far I am fine and the baby is also ok. The doctor asked me to do an anomaly scan because of my age factor (I am 37 years old) though there is no problem so far found for the baby in ultra sound. However, I understand from the net that Anomaly scan is done usually by 20+ weeks of pregnancy. Is the scanning is required ? if required is it now (12 weeks) or after 20 weeks. Please advise
