Is Asking For Repeated Dialysis Without Checking The Reports Right Procedure?
Hi, My brother have CKD-5, his recent report has Serum Cretinine 21, Blood Urea 279 and Potassium 6. Doctor advised for Dialysis, he has gone through one dialysis and next day another dialysis now doctor is asking for another dialysis but after doing all 2 dialysis Doctor didn t do blood test to check the reports and asking for another dialysis. Please advice me is it the right process without checking the reports doing another dialysis on the basis of previous report. One more query after second dialysis Doctor gave 2 unit blood also as his hemoglobin was 6. Is it suggestible? Please advice, your one advice can save my brother s life .
Your brother has kidney failure and regular dialysis is necessary. He will have to continue dialysis at least 3 or more times a week until he can get a kidney transplant. It is very unusual not to get blood work with dialysis, to monitor the abnormalities and be sure the toxins are being adequately removed. Certainly I would want to be following up on a potassium level of 6. I suspect that these tests were being run during the course of the dialysis. Chronic anemia is common with chronic kidney disease, and kidney patients may be given transfusions and also supplemented with a drug to stimulate red blood cell production (erythropoietin). When the hemoglobin gets below 8, particularly if it is symptomatic, then transfusions are recommended, so it was definitely indicated in your brother's case. Hope this answers your question.
