Is Atorvastatin Necessary To Patients After Stent Surgery?

Hi My 86 year old father recently had a stent put into his widow maker artery. He does not have high cholesterol but has been prescribed atorvastatin as basically a protocol drug with this kind of surgery. Is this really important for him to be taking this?

hi
atorvastatin (or any other statins & fenofibrates )are usually added as a mandatory protocol in all the cardiac patients , to either lower down the cholesterol levels or prophylactically to prevent plaques of cholesterol

until there is any contra-indication like deranged liver function tests, or severe hypothyroid, or severe peripheral myopathies, or muscle disorders.

it is better to continue with the medication in the lowest possible doses of 10 mgs usually at night for better absorption, to keep him in controlled state if not contra-indicated.

all the best
take care
