Hello Dr, I am in my 32 week of pregnancy and from the scan which I took a month revelead that I have a low AFI of 5.9 cms.i was advised amino infusion for a week .after that I took a scan again which showed improved level of AFI of 7.6cms.to improve it much bettrr I took amino infusions for a few more days with a gap of 2 days inbetween every infusion.now 3 days back I underwent another scan nd found the AFI as 6.6 cms.my doctor thinks dat I have less chances of a normal delivery so she prescribed 2 betnesol injections with 12 hrs of gap,for the baby s lung maturity.but I have heard that betnesol is given if Afi is high and there are chances of a preterm labour.now is it safe for me to take betnesol injections as my AFI is already low and also how can I improve my AFI.I was advised by the Dr. to take lots of fluids, eat healthy and take rest.will these improve my AFI?I am worried abt the low AFI s and I hope there is no danger to my baby? Thanking you, Shehnaz shaik
Hi, thanks for writing.. First dont panic.. Stress free environment is the best medication. Your doctors treatment is very much appropriate.. 2 doses of betnesol is important for the fetal lung maturity.. drink lots of oral fluid, take rest in left lateral position and take protein rich diet like pulses and egg.. Keep a check on ur babies movements.. If AFI is low ther is less chance of normal labour, u might have to undergo c-section.. Dont worry.. Everything will be fine.. Good day.
