Is Black Coloured Loose Motion A Serious Cause For Concern?

I have had a very stressful week and worked 12-14 hours a day with little sleep. I m sure that I am dehydrated a little, but I just had a bowel movement that we loose and black. I do suffer from Interstitial Cystitis. It is my first experience with this happening. I do not want to freak out and have to go to the hospital right away. I do not see any red in my stool and there is no bleeding when I wipe. Is it okay that I wait until tomorrow to see if my stool is still like this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Black stool indicates bleeding in upper digestive tract like gastric bleeding due to hyperacidity or lower intestinal infection/involvement.

Do not panic/drink a lot of water with salt pinch and sugar/avoid spicy food, eat bland food.

Consult gastroenterologist for needful investigations and expert advise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
