Is Black Discoloration Under The Toenail A Sign Of Fungal Infection?

Hello my daughter has one toenail that has turned black. She says it started off black at the base and then carried up through the rest of her nail. She thinks it may be from cutting her toenail too short and bacteria getting underneath. She also runs track as well.

Hi,

It might be a hematoma i.e.blood collection under toenail due to cutting the toenail very short.

It might be a fungal infection too. Please click a pic and send. It will help me to evaluate.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
