Is Blackish Stool Common After Gall Bladder Removal Surgery?
6 days ago I had my gall bladder out, finally had small amounts of stool, completely black, little drops or turds, then I have been taking stool softener, every late afternoon and evening I have sharp stabs of pain on my right side, not at the wounds, but am very afraid to cough. Today I had several small movements, all were completely black. I thought this was normal. What should I do?
Hi, thanks for your question. Please rate my answer if you are satisfied. Pain on your right side of abdomen and difficulty in coughing can be normal after gall bladder removal surgery and will settle within a couple of weeks usually. But black stools is definitely unrelated to the surgery. Black stool means there is some bleeding going on in your rather upper part of gut. The causes could be numerous ranging from liver problems to stomach problems. In any case this is not related to your gall bladder removal. You should see your doctor soon for the diagnosis and treatment. Take care.
