Is Bleeding After Breast Removal Surgery A Cause Of Concern?

I had a complete removal of my right breast due to cancer. The surgery was last Tuesday. I have a drainage tube and bag. Since surgery I have flushed a little over 600 cc s of blood. Blood loss is continuing, but slowing. I weigh 220 lbs and am 5 8 tall. Is everythiing ok?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Drain fluid amount is slightly higher following breast surgery. This is due the presence of large amount of fatty tissues. It is not blood actually. You have to do blood routine to check whether there is any fall in hemoglobin level. If hemoglobin fall is there, you have to do blood transfusions. Otherwise, nothing much to worry.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
