Is Blockage Of Upper Airway Fatal In A Patient With Brain Tumor?

My son has brain tumor.today he was eating watermelon,suddenly a piece stuck in his throat.we take him to the hospital.doctors said his breathing pipe has shrink suddenly because the piece of watermelon stuck in his throat for long time.now he is breathing through machine.what are his chances to survive.please help

Hi,

The prognosis and final outcome depends on many factors- status of brain tumor (controlled v/s progressing), the extent of hypoxic insult, and his present sensorium. If the tumor is not progressing, there was no prolonged hypoxia (choking beyond few minutes), and he is conscious now on ventilator, hopefully he will come out. Your doctor will be able to explain in more details.
