Is Blood Sugar Level Of 330 A Cause For Concern?

My husband was just at the hospital they did a blood sugar test on him and it came back at 330, he previously has not been diagnosed with diabetes, they sent him home with pills to lower it, they also performed the test about an hour after he ate an apple and drank orange juice, is what they did correct? From what ive been reading 330 seems to be a very high blood sugar, should he be sent home on insulin and checking his blood sugar

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Blood sugar after 1 hour of eating is not considered valid for diabetes diagnosis.
Your value of 330 could be due to apple and orange juice.
I would suggest to go for
1. Fasting blood glucose (8-10 hours fasting)
2. Post meal blood glucose (2 hour after normal meal)
3. Glycated Hb (Hba1c)
All above test will help to diagnose the diabetes.
I would suggest to consult the diabetologist and take proper treatment after appropriate tests

Hope this may help you
