Hi, Thanks for writing in. Not much is known about the genetic risk factors for brain tumor, and there is little evidence connecting brain tumors with family history. However, it is possible that brain tumors are associated with several familial cancer predisposition syndromes. These include Li-Fraumeni syndrome, neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis and Turcot s syndrome. In the above list of conditions, a person might inherit a germline mutation in a tumor suppressor gene. Tumor suppressor genes help suppress development of tumors and when these get mutated or if they are inherited from parents then there is always a possibility that a tumor might arise. However this does not happen too often and does not mean that you get worried about it.
