Is Breakthrough Bleeding In An Under Weight Woman Normal?

Hello . I ended my period on August 31st.. and for 3 days now I have been bleeding and having cramps again.. as if I got a second period. It is a pretty steady flow and the cramps are consistant. There has been blood clots I noticed as well. I read some thing about woman who are under weight and woman who are hormonal will sometimes bleed between periods.. but this isnt spotting.. as it seems to be a heavy flow. I have a doctors appointment Tuesday.. but I am wondering if this should be considured an emergency.. and if I should seek medical attention sooner? I have been showering and taking ibprophen to help ease the pains. Usually on my normal period the first 2 days will be heavy with cramps.. but this seems to be a period thats remaining heavy with cramps for 3 days. Thank you very much.

Hello,

You will need to have a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy first. If the test is negative and you are bleeding as usual, there is no need to rush to the ER.
If the bleeding is getting worse or much more than the usual for you, it is best to see your doctor soon to rule any possible anemia that might be developing due to heavy bleeding. Even the worsening of the pain is an indication for medical attention as well.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
