Is Cholecystectomy Advisable For Pain Below The Ribcage And Nausea?

I have had gerd for many years and been on medication. Last year I started with pain under my ribs on the right side and in the back. I started this fall to have a lot more attacks. My gastro doctor performed a few endoscopic and foudn that I was diagnosed with spincter of oddi disorder. He wanted to do one more test in which it involved MRI imagaing with radiostopes and then they injected some substance... I was very nausous and later at night was vomiting. Now I can only eat very little without feeling nausous. The results came back with gall bladder disease. What does this all mean? Do I need to have my gall bladder out to take away all this pain I have been having. I do see my doctor in a week but nothing has been explained to me except he wants to see me.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

If the cause of pain below rib cage and nausea are pertaining to gall bladder disease as evidenced by Hida scan or else then only cholecystectomy would cure the issue. If the GERD has multiple parameters to cause the symptoms, there can be partial relief from cholecystectomy depending upon its contribution to causation of the agony.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
