Is Chronic Cough And Fever Due To Bacterial Infection?
I have been feeling on the verge of a cold since November. Recently lots of sneezing and nose blowing and a dry cough at night. Last night this turned into more of a bronchial cough and woke up with aches and a fever today. Any idea if it would be viral or bacterial? I am in Denver
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough and fever due to bacterial infection which is due to upper respiratory tract infection leading to bronchitis/ granular pharyngitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications. You should do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances , apply dry warm compresses on external ear. Your symptoms will resolve in 1 week. if symptoms keeps on persisting you should consult ENT specialist and take proper treatment. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at least for 5 days along with decongestant. Also drink green tea with ginger thrice a day and avoid bending forward. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
