Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Clear Water Discharge Normal After Taking Enema?
My 6 year old had an x-Ray which showed she was full of stool. The doctor advised a 4day cleanse using ex-lax, miralax, and enemas. This is day one and she has had 2 doses of ex-lax, 3 doses of miralax, and 2 enemas and so far only clear liquid is being passed, no stool. Is this normal? She is also complaining of stomach cramping.
Usually there is problem with retaining of enema fluid in 6 years old toddler as she can not held the same over a period of time versus adult case. But clear water discharge is only enema fluid and is of no concern to worry about; within next 1 - 2 hours she would be able to pass stool naturally by bowel passage and if the same does not happen inform her pediatrician for the same. Abdomen cramps can be managed with dicyclomine syrup intake.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
