Is Cold And Sore Throat Contagious To Others?

I have a slow moving cold, started with a sore throat last week, it hit full force last friday, I was light headed so I stayed home through the weekend, last night i had hot and cold flashes with heavy sweating and developed a dry cough. Am I still contagious?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

The possibility is high that if you were absolutely asymptomatic between the 1 week, you may have developed some other episode. This may vary anywhere between an anxiety disorder to a cardiac issue. I would need further details about the clinical symptoms to make that diagnosis. There are no indicative features in what you have mentioned.

However, I would suggest that you test chest x ray, echocardiography and complete hemogram just to make sure there is no abnormality that is developing. These tests may help early detection and thereby may help us define the treatment at a early stage of illness, if any

if however, you had a continued cold during the episode, I would suggest that it is time that some investigations are done inclusive of CBC, chest X ray, and esr. There is a likelihood that the infection has moved on to the lungs. The lower respiratory tract infection can present with symptoms that you have mentioned. And this will need a different course of antibiotics.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

Respiratory tract infections can be transferred to another person if precautions are not taken.
You should cover your mouth/nose while coughing and sneezing.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
