Is Consumption Of Alcohol Safe While On Clexane And Warfarin?
My husband had a pulmonary embolism bit more than a week ago. Wednesday he was injected with Actilyse and till yesterday got 2 clexane shots, twice a day. He now gets 1 shot in the morning and 1 at night and drinks a Warfarin in the morning. Can he drink a couple of glasses of red wine?
Hi & Welcome. Consumption of alcohol while taking Warfarin can increase the risk of bleeding due to reduced metabolism of Warfarin hence alcohol or alcohol containing beverages like red wine should be avoided. Whereas alcohol consumption has no such harmful effects while taking Clexane or Actilyse. Hope this answers your query.
