Is Coughing An After Effect Of Upper Endoscopy Procedure?

I had an upper endoscopy on Friday afternoon. I had a slight cough before the procedure which I attributed to allergies and sinus drainage as no other cold symptoms were present. Upon waking up after the procedure, I started coughing and couldn t breathe so was given oxygen and albuetrol through a tube. Since then, I am coughing constantly. My chest feels tighter and deep breaths are impossible. How do I resolve this and do I need to visit my MD to check the cough?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Coughing can happen after endoscopy, it is due to irritation of the airway by the scope. Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself.
No definite treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
