Is Cyst On Placenta In The 19th Week Of Pregnancy A Cause For Concern?

I am 19 weeks pregnant and had our anatomy scan this morning .They found a cyst on my placenta measuring 4.9 cm. The doctor freaked me out saying there isn t much research but it could cause growth restriction and earlier than normal delivery. She even said she had a patient with a loss at 32 weeks recently. I m freaked out. Is this something to really worry about? I m having another scan in 4 weeks, every 4 weeks.

Hi,

Placental cyst can be seen in pregnancy many times. If it is present at insertion of umbilical cord. There are chances of constriction of cord and the complications as been told to you. Please confirm site of the cyst, before you get scared of it. In that case follow with regular reviews and advise given according to situation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
