Is Dark Discoloration Around The Wound A Concern?

I cut my finger 3 days ago while opening canned food. The cut was deep enough that I ended up getting two stitches. I feel that the skin close to the wound is numb and my the skin around my finger is turning dark grey almost. Kind of how it looks like when you smudge pencil with your hand. It’s definitley darker than my other fingers. I was wondering if this was due to bruising?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like iBuprofen for 5 to 7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like Levofloxacin and Azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
