Is Depression Completely Curable?
My wife aged 38 weight 50 kg height 5 .4 is suffering from depression since last eight years four years after marriage. She gave birth to three children in three years.lost her two brothers and father within two years of marriage. She has on interest in life always feel tiered. Life has become hell .my question is depression completely curable.

I understand your concern regarding your wife's depressive illness. Depression is a mental illness which can be controlled with medication, but not completely cured or eradicated. Usually antidepressant medication need to be on a long term basis. This is because depression has a high chance of relapse if medication are discontinued.
In your wife's case, since she has had depression for the last 8 years, it is very likely that she may require regular and continuous intake of medication. If her depressive symptoms are still persisting despite taking medication, then her medication needs to be changed. Sometimes two antidepressants or a combination of antidepressant and an augmenting agent like Lithium or Thyroxine may be needed. In rare cases of severe depression, electroconvulsive therapy may be useful. So, please discuss with her psychiatrist regarding further treatment options.
