Is Dermatomyositis Infectious?

My husband has Dermatomyositis. Diagnoses made about 1 year ago. 2 pet scans 6 months apart showed & test of sample swab being a bacteria in both lungs. Right frontal lobe at top of lung had changes & both lungs looked like salt sprinkles all over both lungs. He has appt. with a Dr. of infectious diseases in about 1 week. Could he be contagious & what is prognosis for him? He is 81 years old & exercises in our pool daily. Thank you.

hi

I think you are talking about two diseases here.
dermatomyositis is not because of an infection. it's an autoimmune disorder and so it's not contagious.

whereas the other problem that you have mentioned with lung swabs being positive of bacteria is contagious. it's lower respiratory tract infection and can spread via sputum and cough.

hope this was helpful. for any further questions please get back to us. thanks.
