Is Discontinuation Of Effexor A Reason For Continued Hot Flashes?

My wife has been given effexor by her doctor because it is supposed to have the side effect of reducing the effect of hot flushes. This has proved to be not the case and she has stopped taking it. Should she have slowly reduced the dose or gone cold turkey? She has been on 15mg

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

Yes,all the antidepressant medications should be started at a low dose and should be gradually increased until required response.Similarly while stopping the drug, the dose should be gradually tapered and stopped to avoid side effects such as withdrawal symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
