Is Discontinuing Ramipril Advisable?

I have been taking Ramipril for 18 months following a diagnosis of high blood pressure. Since then my life circumstances have changed considerably and I am a lot less stressed. My prescription ran out and it took me a month to get more tablets so effectively I have been off medication for a month. I have been taking my blood pressure daily and it has dropped significantly (145/77)- lower than it was two years ago. Could it be that I no longer need the medications? Is this a condition that could right itself? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
High blood pressure (hypertension) is the most common chronic condition. Most patients with hypertension have other risk factors as well, including lipid abnormalities, glucose intolerance, or diabetes; a family history of early cardiovascular events; obesity; and cigarette smoking. There is a close relationship between blood pressure levels and the risk of cardiovascular events, strokes, and kidney disease. The risk of these outcomes is lowest at a blood pressure of around 120/80 mm Hg. So, need for continuing ramipril is very important. There are some life style changes which you may to adopt for better control of high blood pressure.
Advice
1.     Continue ramipril as suggested by your doctor
2.     Start workout like walking, jogging, cycling, or swimming
3.     Take diet rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables
4.     Avoid oily and high cholesterol foods such as egg yolk and milk products etc
5.     Eat less salt
6.     Avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee and caffeinated beverages
7.     Lose extra weight if you are overweight
8.     Reduce your metal stress because stress activates sympathetic system and increases BP
9.     Monitor your BP regularly
10.     Investigation – lipid profile and serum creatinine
Thanks
