Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I seem to have catarrh when the seasons change and this time I have bouts of feeling dizzy when I make sudden movements e.g when standing up and getting out of bed and occasionally when I am bending down or just walking which I do with caution. I am female aged 71 years. Is catarrh and feeling dizzy related?
I have gone through your medical history carefully and can say as following:
1. Catarrh is associated with inflammation of upper respiratory tract including ENT pathways (ear, nose, throat). It might be associated with dizziness if the inner ear is also inflammed causing disturbances in positioning.
2. You are saying that you feel dizzy when you make sudden movements. And this is not related to catarrh. It is related to : - inner ear problems - oscillations in blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension).
I advise to: - measure your blood pressure at the time you feel dizzy - keep monitoring your blood pressure as sometimes high bp can also cause dizziness - consult with ENT specialist to rule out inner ear problems - avoid making such sudden movements
Hope it was of help! Dr.Albana
