Is Dizziness While Getting Up Or Moving Fast Two Months Post An Angioplasty With Stent Placement A Serious Concern?

My father age 57 had an angioplasty 2 months ago. One stent was used. He is experiencing dizziness after 10-15 days. He only gets dizzy after getting up from sitting or moving fast. Also sometimes feels shortness of breath with dizziness. Please help.

Hello,

Your father is required to take certain precautions. Post angioplasty and stent placement he should not do anything that is strenuous. He should walk slowly and go up and down the stairs more slowly than usual. He should not strain during bowel movement. Dizziness could be from low heart rate, low BP, or postural hypotension due to medication.

Since shortness of breath is also a symptom, meet your treating doctor for post-procedure monitoring, check for clot formations / bleeding, infections, allergic reactions, or side effects of the medication taken. He will be treated accordingly. No worries. Do not take stress. Your father should be under follow-up check up with health care professionals to avoid complications like restenosis (re-narrowing of the stented segment) or stent thrombosis.

For this he will be kept under special diet (nutrition) chart, exercise schedule under a Physical therapist, lifestyle changes like weight loss, quitting smoking, alcohol, or addictions if any. Your father is advised to take the prescribed medications and not to neglect taking the prescribed medications in order to avoid complications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
