Is Drinking Alcohol During Early Pregnancy Safe?

Hi I drank very heavy everyday whiskey/beer during the first month of pregnancy until I found out I was pregnant. Stop drinking immediately a week ago. Due date calculator estimates me around 6 weeks. I m afraid I may have harmed the baby not knowing I was expecting at the time. What are the risks. Is there still a chance evthg well be ok

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Alcohol consumption during pregnancy has adverse effects on fetus/baby. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy causes growth retardation and brain damage of fetus especially in early pregnancy. Anyway, you have consumed unknowingly. Hope everything should be fine. But be careful in future. Be in touch with your obstetrician and tell her/him about this so that she/he can take all necessary precautions.
Thanks
