Hi,
It is advisable not to drink whilst taking any medication, even medication prescribed over the counter. This is because drinking alcohol might affect the way the medication works, and mixing alcohol with medication can also be dangerous when mixed or taken with medication, and thus lead to very serious consequences. Sovaldi is an
antiviral medication and mostly broken down (metabolized) in the
liver.
Hepatitis C affects the liver and can lead to serious complication in the liver of not treated, and alcohol can lead to a lot of damage to the liver when used / taken inappropriately as well. My suggestion would be to:
i) Mention this to the doctor writing up the prescription
ii) Have a liver test before and a few months after commencing the medication
iii) Cut down alcohol use when taking medication, or stop taking alcohol if possible
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
