Is Elevated MCV Level Related To Thyroid Disorder?
I recently had a complete physical done for my job and I received a notification that my MCV was abnormal at 104. They recommended a follow up. I usually have 1 beer a night with maybe two on the weekends. I take thyroid medication for an underactive thyroid and I exercise 5-6 days a week doing crossfit, running, biking and hiking. Should I be concerned or just attribute it to my thyroid?
Yes elevated mcv is due to under active thyroid or hypothyroidism. As thyroid unable to produce thyroid hormones it will affects all the cell of the body, energy level and metabolism of body.
Other cause of high MCV: liver disease Myelofibrosis/ marrow aplasia Reticulocytosis Vitamin B12 deficiency Folic acid deficiency
So do not worry, treat your thyroid disease Stop alcohol if possible
Hope this may help you Best regards Dr. Sagar
