Is Excessive Bleeding During Removal Of An External Vaginal Polyp Normal?

I had a external vaginal polyp (located between the vagina and anus) removed yesterday. The polyp would fill with blood and then like burst just to repeat the same thing over and over. When the doctor removed it it took forever to get it to stop bleeding. I requirred stitches in order for her to get it all. Should I be worrying or is this common with polyps? I am 51, 5;7", 275 lbs. I also have the BRCA1 gene.
