Is Exercising Advisable While Suffering From COPD?

I have copd. Use oxygen when exercising or hiking. I love to play softball and am concerned that running very fast when hitting and running bases leaves me very short of breath. I only run to 1st base and am immediately given a substitute runner at which time I return to dugout to put my oxygen on. My breathing, of course, takes several minutes to return to normal. My question: is this dangerous to my heart?

Hi welcome to the health care magic

You are having COPD condition, hence if you will do heavy exercise than breathing problems can occur....

Your spirometry should be done and according to severity treatment should be started
For this condition ipratropium bromide like bronchodilator inhaler should be prescribed...

Graded physiotherapy exercise will be beneficial...

Smoking should be avoided

If needed EKG and echocardiography should be done to check right side heart failure

Take care

Consult pulmonologoist for examination with keeping all this in mind

Hope your concern solved
