Is Facial Swelling Normal Post A Quadruple Bi-pass Surgery?
My neighbor s brother had heart surgery today, quadruple bi-pass. He is out of surgery now. My friend can not go to be with him as it is some distance away so she is worried, etc. and I want to help her understand what is or what has happened today. She knows he went into this surgery in pretty bad shape. There was also question of having to replace Mitral valve which was decided not to do at this time. However, the surgeon told his wife something about placing a ring, I guess on this valve (?). Can you briefly explain what this might be or why it would need to be done? Also, the wife told my friend that his face is very swollen. Is this normal and why would that be? Thank you.

Is Facial Swelling Normal Post A Quadruple Bi-pass Surgery?
Hello, Facial edema can be a sign of heart failure. Consult a cardiologist and get evaluated. You can opt for an echo test to confirm the diagnosis. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
